A patient with hip pain

Posted on 2011-11-13 05:46:20

The patient was in a car accident and presented with the following problems:  neck pain, headaches, low back pain, and unilateral hip pain on the left. Within four weeks all of her symptoms had subsided except the hip pain. From my experience it didn't make sense that the low back pain subsided and the hip pain was still constant.  Based on that line of thinking I referred her to a hip specialist for an evaluation.  I have worked extensively with this physician and respect his expertise. After an MRI and exam he told the patient she needed a hip replacement. She came back in my office for a follow-up visit and shared the news.  I checked her spine with the pulstar fras unit (see video on the home page) and the graph was clear. Here is where experience is so valuable, and why I always say you have to be able to think outside the box when it comes to treating pain. I decided to check her atlas. This is the first bone in the spinal column located at the top of the neck and also is known as C1. On the pulstar atlas was clear meaning it didn't register that an adjustment was needed. However there are many ways of analyzing the spine. I utilized a technique that I learned at least fifteen years ago by a doctor in California specifically for the atlas. This analysis told me she needed an adjustment on the left side of C1. I performed this adjustment and the patient got off the treatment table without hip pain. That was two weeks ago and she is still pain free.  If I have said this once I've said it ten thousand times. You cannot just look in the area of pain for the reason the patient hurts. In the vast majority of cases I treat, where the patient is experiencing pain and where you find the source of that pain are in two different places.

Chronic headaches and migraines

Posted on 2011-10-23 06:15:58

One of the chronic ailments I talk a lot about on my radio program is chronic headaches and migraines, and I would like to share it with you.  In 26 years of private practice it has been my experience that at least seventy percent of individuals that suffer with either of these problems, can  expect a significant decrease in the intensity or frequency of them or a complete elimination. I understand a lot of you would be skeptical.  Why isn't this front page news. After all we spend 20-30 billion dollars a year on medication that can help the migraines temporarily  but they aren't designed to eliminate the problem once and for all. What I can tell you is this: Chiropractic care treats the source of many of the ailments that plague our society today. Chronic headaches and migraines being just one of them. Let me share one story. My I.T. person had been suffering with chronic migraines for 18 years, to the tune of 2-3 a week. That was 3 years ago. In the last 3 years you can count on one hand the number of migraines he's had.  This after years of suffering with the only treatment being medication after medication after medication. Again why isn't this front page news. I've been asking that question for 30 years. Do I believe in medication for migraines? Yes. But if there is a possibility of eliminating them once and for all isn't it worth investigating?

Yesterday was an incredible day in the office. I would like to share two cases with you. The first was a gentleman who came to the office by way of his son in law and daughter who are patients. He had been experiencing persistent back spasms for a very long time, that had a significant impact on his normal daily activities. After 3 visits the spasms subsided. I saw him two more times over the past eight weeks with no further spasms. As he was leaving he said to me: you know I was very skeptical. I thanked him for coming and told him if the symptoms ever return call my office immediately. Being skeptical is normal. Fear of the unknown, normal. Afraid the treatment will make you worse, normal.  I would urge you to watch the video on the home page and get a first hand look at computerized Chiropractic care. This treatment in the vast majority of cases is very effective in relieving acute as well as chronic pain and discomfort.  The second case was my last new patient of the week. He was experiencing low back discomfort when standing for long periods of time. Unusual for someone so young.  After taking the X-rays I knew the source of his pain was not in the low back  I performed two adjustments in his mid back and felt an immediate change in the musculature.  I told him I would not be surprised if the discomfort subsides with the first treatment. I have been given the good fortune of helping sick people get well. It doesn't get much better.

I received a tremendous amount of feedback about my radio show last night. Most of it stemming from the call from the gentleman who's wife has become addicted to oxycodone. With all due respect, a lot of people missed the boat. This woman would've never been in the situation she finds herself  currently, if she had a doctor who took the time to diagnose her first, find the source of her pain,  and then begin treatment based on the information gathered. Why is it that so many individuals that have pain go to the doctor and are prescribed medication before the physician knows what's  wrong. I don't get it.  If you are currently under care, and the doctor treating you isn't completely focused on solving the problem and getting you well, then it's time for a second opinion. I would like to end on a positive note; I saw two of my favorite patients today. I hadn't seen either of them in almost a year and it so nice to spend time with them both. One has been a patient  for twenty three years. Wow, where did the time go!
